The performance at the Tagore Centre-Indian Embassy, was the launch of the European leg of my 2018 “Spirit of Odissi Tour.” As Berlin was my entry point to Europe years ago, it felt fitting to present the first performance there. I have always appreciated the care and commitment Tagore Centre has demonstrated to support and promote Indian performing arts and artists. This particular program was my personal tribute to eminent Sitar artiste Pandit Subroto Roychoudhury, who had passed away unexpectedly the previous year. Subrotoji had opened the door for me in Berlin/Europe when he invited me to be a part of his “India Quartet,” several years ago. I was amazed by Subrotoji’s commitment to teach and present Indian classical music throughout Europe, and even today I am inspired by his example.
